Highlights of October NSAA Meeting

Studio Space Available Soon

The space above Forward Foods on Main will be turned into 6 studios and there are plans for additional studio space to be developed on Tonkawa. The rental for the studios will be in the vicinity of $400 per month (subject to change). If you are interested in securing a studio for your private use or to share with other artists, please e-mail Christian Pitt at xianpitt@gmail.com.

Poster Competition

The Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art has announced a WPA poster competition with a prize of $1,000. The entry deadline for delivery is November 30, 2009 for an exhibit opeing on February 6, 2010. The winning poster will stay at FJJMA during the exhibition while the other entrants will be on display at Michelangelo’s. For more information, please get in touch with the museum or e-mail Christian at xianpitt@gmail.com.

Call for Documentation

For future PSA announcements, as members of NSAA we need to start documenting who we are, what we do, and examples of our work. So, get out the digitial and start documenting your life as an artist: single shots, group shots, gallery shots, work-in-progress shots, studio shots, other publicity—all are welcome. Bring your documentation to the next meeting or e-mail as attachments to Christian (xianpitt@gmail.com), Sue (sschofield2@cox.net), or Almira (agrammer1@cox.net).

Chocolate Festival 2010

The Festival will be held on January 30. Douglas Elder (Firehouse) presented the proposed plans for the event, including asking artists to participate and work in conjunction with one of the restaurants. There will be 10-12 artists, each working with a specific restaurant. Details have yet to be determined. Rick Fry (NAC) said participating artists could use the NAC display panels.

2nd Friday Possible Exhibit Space (November and December)

Christian Pitt will check with the Sooner Theatre Annex to see if we can use that space for exhibition. NAC panels will be available if they agree to let us use the space. It will be inside, so no excuses about the weather :>) Check with Christian for further information if you are interested.

Visitors Wanting Norman Art

Jen Tregarthen said that the Norman Convention and Visitors Bureau get a lot of people who want Norman-specific art. This would be a great place to drop off some of your artists cards so interested parties can get in touch with you. Stop by the Bureau, log on to the website or call at 366-8095.

The next NSAA meeting will be November 18, 5:30 pm, at Mainsite. Our guest speaker will be Kathryn Sweeny, chair of the grants committee of the NAC. This is an important topic, so we hope to see all of you at the next meeting.
